Prayer for Parents

Father,

Today I pray for the moms and dads who are trying to care for their children in these challenging times. Children are close to Your heart, and that makes them a target for the enemy.

You called children ‘arrows’, and You said that the parent whose quiver (pouch that holds arrows) is full is blessed (Psalm 127). A full quiver is heavy, Lord, and parents need help with the carrying.

Arrows are used for hunting to provide food and clothing. Arrows are also weapons used for protection and to attack the enemy. Father, help these parents hone their arrows – training them to be providers and protectors and warriors for Your truth. This is not easy in a culture that numbs children’s minds with baubles and empty distractions.

Grant discernment, Lord. Help the parents recognize the tactics of the enemy that threaten their children.

Grant grace and strength to stand against this permissive, enabling culture and its pull on the children.

Grant love to cover a multitude of sins, for we come into this world as sinners and we quickly live up to that birthright.

Grant peace in Your ability to sustain and support and save.

Grant joy – great joy – in the everyday innocence and playfulness that are so bound in the hearts of our children.

Grant perseverance to stay the course.

Most of all, Lord, give the parents hearts fully aligned to Yours, and let them maneuver through the maze of each day holding firmly to Your hand.

Luke 18:15-17 And they brought unto Him also infants, that He would touch them: but when His disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

And Father, help the teachers who help the parents. Give them grace and peace and stamina and protection as they begin a new school year.
