No Expiration

While flipping through an old journal, I found a prayer that I jotted on August 24, 1976. I know what was happening in my life then.

I had just graduated from college. After spending the summer working on my master’s degree, I was home and interviewing for teaching jobs. That was not a good year to be looking for a teaching position, and interview and interview failed to bring good results. It was time for school to start, and I did not have a classroom of my own. Discouragement threatened.

I reached a decision point. I could stay and continue looking, or I could go back to school to complete my master’s degree. Money was an issue, and God would have to help me work that out.

God knew my heart, and my heart wanted to teach.

In the middle of my angst, this is the prayer that I scratched on an index card.

Dear Father,You have kept me,guided, protected, and loved me always before. You have never failed me.I cannot failto trust You now.

While my situation did not change immediately and there were several more mazes to maneuver, I did get my own classroom that year. As I began my first year with first grade students, I thanked God for answering my heart’s desire.

What amazes me is that this prayer is still the cry of my heart today. The circumstances of life have changed, and I am over forty years older, but I can say with confidence that He has never failed me.

So, even in the uncertainty of our times, I cannot fail to trust Him now.

Perspective in Prayer

My prayers usually focus on what I need God to do for me. Things like rain, health and healing for a friend, grace to deal with the frustrations of the day. I pray for my children and their children.
