Matthew 11:28Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Invitation – Come unto Me

Promise – I will give you rest.

Instruction – Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me (Jesus)

What does a yoke do?

  • It allows the master to control;

  • It fits the worker for the work;

  • It allows the worker to work with another.

Christ’s yoke is easy, but it is a yoke.  It is representative of giving control of my life and direction to Him.  Its purpose is to fit me for the work He has for me to do.  When I choose my own way, His yoke will chafe and hinder me.  My rest is found in His will and His way.  This reminds me of the old gospel hymn, Trust and Obey.  Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

The invitation is clear and the promise is certain.  The choice to obey is mine.

Father, Let me walk in Your way today.
