Trucking Through Arkansas

Arkansas roads wind through farmland and forest, with wind being the operative word. We do our best to avoid the interstates, because we enjoy passing through the small towns. The trip takes longer, but the that is the joy of the journey.

Most of our morning took us through and over the Ouachita Mountains, where we passed towns and places like the Crater of Diamonds State Park, Hope, Arkadelphia, and Hot Springs. We continued on because we were headed farther north, but the heavily forested mountains were like a carpet before us in many places.

We did stop for a couple of pictures when we reached the town of *Delight. How could we not with a name like that? Our delightful fact for the day was that this was the birthplace of country singer Glen Campbell.

By afternoon we were close to Harrison, Arkansas and the Buffalo National River. This river was established as a national river in 1972, and it remains the only national river in the United States. It is also the only river that flows with no dam for 135 miles. The national preserve that surrounds this river is extensive and beautiful. Eddy, my husband, was hoping to do some fishing.

We had left behind the Ouachita mountains and were traveling in the Ozark mountains of northern Arkansas. The temperatures were much more to our liking, and we were ready to set up camp.

We chose the Shady Oaks RV Park for our stay. This friendly place welcomed us with open arms and gave us a home base for several days of exploring.

Today’s Encouragement:God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea(Psalm 46:1, 2)

*More About Delight: One of the reasons that we were so excited to find the town of Delight is because of the many verses that encourage us to delight in the Lord and to delight in His word. Riding through the town seemed one more reminder on our trip that God was riding right along with us. Our life verse is Psalm 37:4 “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
