News that Changed the World

The account that changed all of history begins with simple words
“as it began to dawn”*
and simple people.
Matthew names Mary Magdaleen and Mary the mother of James (not the one who was the brother of John – the “other Mary”). Mark adds Salome, and Luke gives us Joanna. Grieving women, come to pay homage to their Lord by completing His burial.
They came at dawn, without hope, expecting a decaying body and an onerous but necessary task. One can only imagine that their footsteps matched their broken hearts as they faithfully trudged to finish this last act of love.
But in that quiet dawn as they reached the tomb things began to happen to let the world know what had occurred –
The earth shook.
The guards fainted.
The stone rolled.
An angel spoke.
And these humble women were given the news that would shake the world, upset kingdoms, overcome evil, overthrow Satan, instill hope into the hopeless, and defeat the demon of death.
JESUS IS ALIVE!
“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay” (Matthew 28:6, KJV)
I find it interesting that God chooses simple people when He decides to announce His news to the world.
When His Son was born, He chose shepherds. When His Son conquered death, He announced the news to a group of humble women, and from there it spread to the world.
Then He gave the charge to each believer to “go and tell”. No marketing campaign. No advertising agency. Just everyday people, empowered by His Holy Spirit, sharing the news of how Jesus changes lives.
God’s plan has worked for over two thousand years, and it continues to work today – one person at a time.
God is not about efficiency. He is about people, and love, and redemption.
God is about His people telling His story.
Every day. Wherever they are. Wherever they go.
Someone told me. Now, I share the story, over and over again.
It never gets old.
Jesus lived. He died on the cross for our sins, so that we could be forgiven. He was buried in a borrowed tomb, and on the third day, He rose again. Victorious over death. Because of this, we can have eternal life. All we have to do is ask Him. All we have to do is ask.
That's my story. That's my song.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:19 – 20, KJV).
Father, thank You for sending Jesus. Thank You for trusting me with this amazing news. Help me to be faithful to share this story in every way that I can. I want to celebrate You with the world. May Your glory shine forever. In Jesus’ name I pray.
*Matthew 28:1, KJV
