On the mountain I can seefar past dark valleys that stretch belowfilled with their trials and their work for each dayOn the mountain I can feelchilly winds of morning flowing pastlike lightly brushing angels’ wingson my face.On the mountain I stand fast, and the mighty Rock of Agesassures that victory lives withinHis sweet grace. But lilies do not grow upon the mountain.Lakes of mercy there I do not see.In the valley, quiet valley,He awaits me with His love. The Lily of the Valley is my Lord.

When I was a young girl, I remember an elderly preacher who often came to our church. One of his favorite sayings was “If you are walking through a valley, remember that Jesus is the Lily of the Valley”.

Even as a child, I understood that the valley represented the hard times of life and that Jesus would always be with me as I walked through them.

He would be beauty where I saw pain.

He would be life where I saw death.

He would be growth where I saw stagnation.

While I have forgotten many words that were said, I have not forgotten these, and they have proven true and faithful in my life.

Song of Solomon 2:1I AM the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

Psalm 23:Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
