For the Birds

“For the birds” is an American idiom that means trivial or worthless. When we say something is ‘for the birds’, we are not usually offering a commendation.

God loves birds, though, and having a day for the birds is not always a bad thing. Sometimes, they are just the reminder we need that God has not forgotten us.

These aren’t sparrows, but they give witness to God’s creation and faithful care.

Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings (pennies), and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Today, I am rejoicing in God’s care for His people, for He sees in them much more value than the beautiful birds He has created.
