Peter, that disciple we seem to most identify with, the headstrong, the determined, the outspoken, the foot-in-the-mouth one, followed Christ from the moment that Jesus called him from his fisherman’s nets.
Peter slipped sometimes. He trusted the wrong voice sometimes, and he often spoke when he should have been listening. He messed up royally, but he repented and ran right back to the One who called him. Peter followed Jesus through persecution, hardship, and even unto death.
Though Peter struggled with his humanness (don’t we all), the command, the purpose, the direction that Jesus gave to him never changed. When Peter was a simple fisherman, Jesus said, “Follow Me.” After years of discipleship, when the physical presence of Jesus was no longer with him, Peter’s commission remained –
“Follow Me.”
Today, through words inspired by and preserved by God, this commission has passed to the redeemed. It has passed to me.
Follow Me
-share the Living Water.
-care for others.
-love each other
-do good to those who hate you.
-pray.
-walk in faith, trusting the Father for provision.
-hope, don’t despair.
-fear not.
-live – one day at a time.
-watch your words.
-forgive.
-rejoice, even when circumstances dismay.
Follow Jesus
-through the crowd.
-through the distractions.
-through the pain.
-through the persecution.
-through the storm.
-through the confusion.
-through every moment of every day of your life.
Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
Along a path I cannot see, walking in eternity, I simply follow Jesus. His footprints clear, His way is straight, No backward glance at what is past, I simply follow Jesus. My eyes are fixed upon His grace As step by step by step leads forward. I simply follow Jesus.
