Walking in the Light

One of my greatest discoveries has been the flashlight on my phone. It is wonderful! I am no longer in the dark. No matter where I am, I have a light. When I go to my car at night, I can turn it on and see where to put my feet. When I need more light to find a missing object, I just click the little lightbulb icon, and I have plenty of illumination. I love it.
It may seem silly to some people, but light is important to me. I don’t like walking in the dark.
God believes in light, too. He provides light for our way so that we don’t have to walk in the dark in this world. Psalm 119:105 tells us that His word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path, but what does that mean?
This world is filled with and controlled by the darkness of sin. Right seems wrong and wrong seems right. It can be difficult in our own minds to discern good from evil. Proverbs 16:25 says “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (KJV). Our souls are innately directionally impaired. We need the wisdom of God to stand true and His truth to know the right way to walk.
We find God’s truth in His word. Only there can we find the light we need to traverse the dark roads of this world with safety. His word provides the light for my path and the lamp so that my feet know the next step to take.
I learned the hard way that if I try to walk in the dark without a flashlight, I am going to trip over something. I have the bruises to prove it. I have also learned that if I try to live without following God’s word, I will fall into trouble that I could have avoided. I have the experiences to prove that as well.
Another verse in Psalm 119 has stood me well to help me walk straight on dark paths. It is found in verse eleven.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee (Psalm 119:11, KJV).
I carry that flashlight with me all the time. I have to keep it charged by continuing to read and study God’s word daily and committing it to my heart. His Holy Spirit is faithful to bring it to my memory in times of need.
How brightly is your flashlight burning these days?
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (KJV).
