Seed Sowers

I came home after a week away and found a happy gift.

It wasn’t wrapped in paper or tied with a bow. Instead, it was blooming right beside my porch. I didn’t plant it, and no one else in my family did either.

This plant (you can see it in the picture) appeared last year as a single bloom all on its own. A secret seed Sower sowed the seed – perhaps a bird or the wind. The seed landed in just the right fertile spot, got the correct amount of water (thank You, God), and it sprouted and grew into a plant.

This year, it is an entire bouquet – a happy gift that greeted my arrival.

As I enjoyed this bouquet in my yard, I thought about seed sowing. I thought about the seeds that I sow (or not) daily. It’s easy to sow seeds of dissatisfaction or anger, and seeds of impatience and criticism can drop without any thought on my part at all. But those are not the seeds that I want to sow, and those are not the seeds that will bring joy to my Father either.

As I allow the Holy Spirit to guide my life, I believe good seeds will show up for sowing.

Hope

I have hope for those who have no hope. I may not be able to preach a sermon as I pass by, but I can offer a smile or a word of encouragement. I can mention the Savior who loves them, and I can give a helping hand in times of trial.

Joy

In this discouraging world, I have the joy of God to share. Some days smiles are in short supply, but I can give one of mine. I’m amazed at the change that occurs when I call people by name and compliment them as I interact with them in stores. Joy and laughter are wonderful seeds to sow.

Love

We carry the love of the Father to our world. Each person we meet is His creation. Only He knows which ones have fertile hearts that are just waiting for someone to share a seed of love with them.

Seeds are tiny kernels, but they carry life with great potential. They are not for hoarding but for sowing freely wherever we go.

The seeds you sow today may blossom into someone’s happy gift tomorrow.

“They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.  He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:5 – 6, KJV).

Father, I want to be a seed sower for You. Let me generously scatter Your word, Your love, Your hope, and Your joy wherever I go. Let the seeds that are sown blossom in the hearts of those who are searching and in the souls of those who are discouraged. May I always be conscious of my part in Your Kingdom. You are the Great God! In Jesus’ great name I pray.
