This journey has been months, maybe even years, in the planning. It is my husband’s dream, and I get to tootle along with him in a 995 Lance truck camper loaded on a 3500 Dodge Ram truck. You could compare us to at turtle, but we go a lot faster. We will be living and traveling in this rig for the next several months, and it is sure to be an adventure.
I hope to capture some of the highlights of the journey and share them here, so the blog may look a bit different over the next few weeks and months. Let me know what you think.
Millwood Lake State Park
Florida is several days behind us, but I feel like we are at the beginning of our journey as we pull up at Millwood Lake State Park outside of Ashdown, Arkansas. We visited this park in the fall of 2020 when the weather was MUCH cooler. Daily temperatures are reaching three digits right now, and I, for one, am thankful we are not tent camping.
The morning temperatures, though, are bearable. A light breeze seals the deal on a lovely beginning to the day. It is not even seven o’clock in the morning and some fishermen are returning to camp. They were up before daylight to beat the relentless heat. So was I.

I joined a lovely egret looking for breakfast and enjoyed the quiet serenity of lotus blossoms scattered across the surface of the lake. Most campers are still enclosed in their campers, but I couldn’t miss this early quietness. Soon it will be time to cook breakfast and begin preparations for the day.

Bacon smells soon indicate that people are waking up around the campground. One of the wonderful gifts of camping is meeting a variety of lovely people. Our camp neighbor was a retired nurse, and we visited like old friends. Campsites are good for that.
With the rising temperatures, we will not linger at Millwood Lake, even though it is a beautiful park. We will head to cooler climes today.
Northern Arkansas, here we come.
Today’s Word of Encouragement: Psalm 20:6 – 7 Now know I that the Lord saves His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
