Working with flowers always reminds me of my mom. She relished her garden and yard, and conversations with her sisters or friends usually resulted in a seed or clipping exchange. Mom never said thank you for a clipping, reminding the giver that doing so would ensure the death of the plant. They would laugh and nod agreement. I grew up weeding and watering flower beds and gardens under her direction. My involvement was passive at best; there were other things I preferred to do.

These lovely flowers were found on Cranberry Island in Maine.
