Psalm 26:2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart.
Some days I need a checkup. Not from a medical doctor, but from my Lord.David asked for a checkup in Psalm 26. He asked God to inspect his mind, his heart, his emotions. He even asked God to prove, or test, him. David, from his human perspective thought all was good, but God’s holiness can detect when attitudes and priorities begin to stray. And they do.Moment by moment, this world pulls and tugs at my heart. I am so easily caught up in the drama, the unkind word, the careless thought. My focus distorts reality, and I lose sight of Him.That is the key – keeping my eyes on Him, on His love, His suffering, His faithfulness, His grace, and keeping my mind focused on His truth.David said it in Psalm 26:3:
“
For Thy lovingkindness is before my eyes
: and I have walked in Thy truth.”
The author of Hebrews reiterated it in Hebrews 11:2 – 3:
“
Looking unto Jesus
the author and finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. for
consider Him
that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds.”
These verses remind me that I have a daily task – When someone is unkind –
look at Jesus.
When difficulties occur –
look at Jesus.
When I feel slighted –
look at Jesus.
When sorrow or pain overwhelm –
look at Jesus.
When the lies of this world attack –
look at Jesus, and remember His truth!
David speaks of this daily task in Psalm 25:15:
“My eyes are ever toward the Lord
; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.”
He loves. He rescues.He keeps.He cares.He redeems.He strengthens.He preserves.He protects.He gives grace.Today is the day to be keeping my eyes on Him!Photo:
